Welcome to another intermittent post by yours truly, just wanted to let the hordes of 7th Wave Fans out there in interweb world know that I’ve updated a lot of the photos on the main site and uploaded them all to the on-line shop. Photographic productivity has been a little on the slooow side recently, which I blame entirely on the truly shocking weather we have been having. If anyone & I mean ANYONE tries to tell me that there is no such thing as climate change I’ll clump them one right there & then. There hasn’t been a decent evening for weeks (My prime time for photo trips) I’m losing the will to live. One of the few things that keeps me going at the moment is the preposterous offerings from The Daily Llama, check them out, plus introducing friends & relatives to the marvels of WordPress.

I’ve recently signed up as a member of the excellent ‘Shutterchance‘ photographers site. It’s a world wide community & I’ve found it really useful from a confidence point of view. Peoples comments have been really positive & have helped me focus on certain aspects of my pictures. It’s not as pretentious as some photoblog sites and i heartily recommend it. Check it out.

As I trundle into 2008, leaving in my wake the memory of far too many mince pies and excessive chocolate consumption, the good news is I didn’t spend all the holiday eating non stop! I did actually take some pix and also did a bit of work too. In evidence M’Lud may I present the all new Welcombe Arts Website. Out goes the  outdated ISP hosted html pages and in comes some user friendly wordpress driven content. The simple idea being that it’s far better to have all the fellow members of Welcombe Arts updating their own pages rather than having to rely on me. Check it out here

Hope you enjoy it and revel in the fact that there are so many brilliant creative souls in such a small place.

Things have been a little slow on the old photo blog front, work & life have been getting in the way too much lately. But “Ho hum” that’s life I guess. I’ve been compiling some new galleries from some of this years best pix which should go online over the Christmas break.
I’m working on an XML controlled, Flash delivery, Polaroid thumbnail, tabletop thingy. I think it will look great.

Just need to iron out a couple of gremlins and everything should be fine.
Sold a few framed prints during the run up to Crimbo so I can’t really complain, however I really, really should make more of an effort to push my work but confidence is low and as an annual SAD sufferer motivation is a bit thin on the ground too.

Just another quickie to say thanks to all of you who made the effort to make it over our side of the valley for the OS weekend. Mucho, mucho appreciato.  A special big thanks to the ‘Young’ posse who made it all worthwhile, I really hope the pic looks good on your wall. You saved the day (Well weekend). Lot’s of nice comments and conversations with many of you and for those I thank you too. It’s really hard sometimes to know whether or not your own work is any good or not or whether it’s just a pile of steaming doggy doo-doo, so it’s great to hear the positivity. Nice one. 
Most of the OS artists met up at the Old Smithy on Sunday night for a post event drink so from them I say thanks as well.
Looking forward to seeing you all again sometime soon maybe.

Master Of None as they say, but hey!, never one to be discouraged by complete and utter failure I’ve now included some of my demo tracks on the main site as well. Just hit the little speaker icon to the right of the main navigation. I’ll upload some more tracks in the next couple of days if I get the chance. In the mean time hope you enjoy them and maybe even like them! They are all from my CD ‘The Black Dog Demo’s’, If in the incredibly unlikely event of anyone actually wanting a copy then just buzz me a mail.

Evenin’all. Sam’s been hard at work publicising the Open Studios and I’ve been e-mailing the world and his wife about it too.
Buzzed a mail to Kathryn who works for our local paper, The NDJ, about the OS wekend and she asked if I could supply an image of all the artists. So….some frantic ringing around later and hey presto. What a motley crew! We are more likely to scare people off than entice them over.

Oddly enough the NDJ liked the pic so much they are going to do a whole article in the Arty Farty section. Result!

Photobox have once again proved why they knock all other pale immitations into a cocked hat! They had a special 3 for 2 on poster prints 30″ X 20″ so I duely uploaded some pix, and placed an order. Couple of days later the prints arrive, two are cracking and one was a bit of a let down. Colours seemed a tad dull and the whole thing was a smidgen on the ‘furry’ side. Gave them a ring, no hanging around for hours listening to some tiresome music, totally understanding and re-ordered the print to be done free of charge! In all the dealings I’ve had with them they are exactly how you wish everyone else should be when it comes to customer service. 10/10

I’ve been around at James’ last couple of days sorting his new ‘pooter’ out and used the new ‘Vista’ file transfer migration program yeasterday for the first time. Despite expectations it worked a treat! I only wish I’d done the same rather than laboriously dumping it all on to my PHD and copying it across. The vista tool was excellent. Talking of excellent Vistas, Nic and I walked to Morwenstowe and back today (5 hour yomp) stunning views North up the coast on the return leg. Our local coastline is just, so, so beautiful. Yet again we rolled out the heavily used but never tired of phrase ‘We live HERE’.

Just a quick post to let you know about this years Open Studios event. It’s a chance to come and meet a group of artists, makers, crafts people & photographers where they live and work. It’s organised by a few members of Welcombe Arts of which I am one (Of course) and will hopefully promote all the brilliant stuff that is going on in this, a few square miles, of North Devon. Last years event was really good fun and well attended. It’s nice to meet & chat with people about your work as well as see your friends work in a different light and setting. There are some new folk taking part this year as well so it should be an interesting weekend. Took it down at the beach week before last when the high winds had whipped up a few days of big messy swell. The sea had been relatively calm for weeks and the spume or ‘Guiness head’ was amazing. Anyway it’s been flat as a pancake this last week but swell is on the way, so forgive me if I don’t go taking pix tommorrow, it’s time to wax up the board at last! Whoopee.

S’funny but you spend ages looking for something and then realise you had found it months ago, just didn’t realise it at the time. That’s the thing about wordpress, somehow I got sidetracked with the whole ‘Blogger’ thing when all along this is such a better and elegant solution. The old adage that ‘You can’t teach an old dog new tricks’ isn’t necessarily so, it’s just they take longer to learn at my age, that’s all. Another cracking jewel out there in ‘free if you know where to look world’ has to be the fantastic php bulletin boards over at informe.com. So, this week has been fruitful in some ways and not others. The weather has been atrocious and the camera is gathering dust on the kitchen table. Roll on winter!!
